Healing Hands Foundation (HHF) Vice-President David Nthite, visited the village of Ejido Domingo, Mexico in February 2009, with Engineer Ram Krishnan and President of a Mexico NGO called Ninos Del Ray – Dr. Ernesto Cary. Ejido Domingo is a Mountain Village located in San Luis Petosi State in Mexico. There are 300 residents in the village and majority are farmers, who earn $2 to $3 per day as wages. The villagers depend on a well, which frequently dries up and a nearby river which is frequently contaminated, for their water needs. The team met with the villagers and did an initial thorough assessment of their water needs.
During the rainy season, much of the rain water flows down the mountain, reaches the river below and creates flooding. Within one or two weeks after these floods, the village becomes entirely dry again. The plan is to carry out a rainwater harvesting project using basic building materials, to provide clean water all year round to the Village. This project is a collaborative effort by HHF, the Villagers of Ejido Domingo, Ninos del Rey in Mexico City and Frank Bakka.
