FAMU (Families United) - Ongoing

Background:

There is an increasing number of Nigerian children in the UK, who are separated from their families in Nigeria as a result of trafficking, abduction, conflict, migration, divorce and asylum. The FAMU project aims to improve outcomes for many Nigerian children, who find themselves at risk in the UK. This project will advocate for these vulnerable children, ensure that their best interests are taken into account and reunite them with their families.

HHOOF partnered with a UK based NGO called Children and Families Across Borders (CFAB) from 2013 and set up the FAMU (Families United) project. The services provided by HHOOF to CFAB includes:

• Social work assessments of nuclear and extended family members in Nigeria, aiming to reunite Nigerian children under the care of the UK Social Services department with their family in Nigeria.

• Conducting welfare assessments of children reunited with their family in Nigeria.

• Offer support in child protection reporting.

• Offer support in child trafficking cases involving Nigeria

• Offer counseling and rehabilitation support to the child in Nigeria, to ensure smooth integration with their family in Nigeria.
